1. Before you start
- AI tool connections are in early access. We switch them on for your workspace when it joins.
- You need a First Mile Labs account in the workspace, and your own account with the AI tool. Custom connectors may need a paid plan with your AI provider.
- A connection acts as you, with your role in each workspace. It never approves, declines or closes a case.
2. Switch connections on (admins)
A workspace’s compliance admin or admin does this once, in Compliance Config → Security & access:
- Turn on Let members connect AI assistants to this workspace.
- Confirm the statement shown: case data your members ask about goes to the AI provider they connect, under your organisation’s own agreement with that provider, which isn’t a First Mile Labs subprocessor.
- Save.
On the same page, if you want them:
- Which apps: allow any app, or only the ones you choose.
- Allowed networks: limit connections to your own networks. An AI tool in the cloud calls from its provider’s network, so a list of your office addresses will stop it.
- Person details: let analysts’ connections read a person’s full details, such as their date of birth and address.
3. Find your connector URL
In First Mile Labs, open Account settings → AI tool connections. It shows the URL to paste into your AI tool, and these steps again.
4. Claude (web or desktop)
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and choose Add custom connector.
- Name it First Mile Labs and paste your connector URL.
- Choose Connect, and sign in to First Mile Labs if asked.
- On the consent page, check the workspaces it lists. To let Claude make changes, such as adding notes, tick Also let Claude change your cases. Then choose Allow.
- In a chat, switch the connector on under + → Connectors.
Claude asks only to read. Without the tick, it reads your cases but can’t change them. To change your mind later, disconnect it and connect again.
5. ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT’s settings, add a custom connector. Depending on your version and plan, it’s under Apps & Connectors or Plugins, and may need Developer mode.
- Paste your connector URL, and choose OAuth with no client ID or secret: ChatGPT registers itself.
- Connect, sign in to First Mile Labs if asked, and choose Allow on the consent page.
ReadsChatGPT reads your cases. We haven’t yet seen it make a change, so we don’t promise that yet.
6. Microsoft Copilot
Coming. Copilot Studio connects, but we haven’t yet confirmed its tool calls. Talk to us if you’d like to try it.
7. If something doesn’t work
- “This connector requires additional permissions”: the connection can only read. Disconnect it in your AI tool, connect again, and tick Also let Claude change your cases.
- Your workspace isn’t on the consent page: connections aren’t switched on for it, or the app isn’t on its list. Ask your workspace admin.
- It stopped working: your workspace may limit connections to certain networks, or your admin may have blocked the app. Account settings say why.
- Files: you can’t upload files through a connection.
8. Disconnecting
- In Account settings → AI tool connections, choose Disconnect. The connection stops at its next request.
- A workspace admin can block any member’s connection in Security & access.
- A connection lasts 30 days. Account settings show when you need to connect again.
